Meet Juan Manuel Valenzuela, CEP and New Member of the Enterprise Engagement Alliance

picture1The Enterprise Engagement Alliance congratulates Juan Manuel Valenzuela, who became a Certified Engagement Practitioner (CEP) on September 28 and the EEA’s first professional member from Mexico. Juan, who is also a PIM, runs Mexico City based, Above Target with his wife Gaby, where they and their team design and manage incentive and loyalty programs.

Juan is an MBA graduate and spent many years helping companies achieve their financial goals. But he never forgot his first job while still in college working as a bookkeeper in a flower shop.  As a student, Juan didn’t own a car, so in exchange for rides home after work, he helped the owner deliver gifts of flowers along the route. Juan remembers the experience like this: “When someone opens the door and gets flowers or a surprise like that, you feel their happiness. So at that moment I said to myself, ‘this is what I want to do for a living, this is what makes me happy.’”

Juan realized his goal many years later. He got the chance when his wife Gaby left her job as a Pepsico Mexico executive. Today, after years of preparation, hard work, and a few inevitable setbacks, Juan and Gaby find themselves running a thriving incentives and loyalty business, counting restaurant chains like Starbucks, PF Changs and Dominos among their clients.

Juan has also forged alliances with the Incentive Marketing Association (IMA) and travels to the US frequently for conferences. He likes to play guitar and spend time with Gaby and their three children.
